Sled Area Description
Quartz Creek is Golden's snowmobile showcase area and is groomed on a regular basis. This area is located approximately 40 kilometres west of Golden on Highway 1. You can ride in on a scenic groomed trail to the Golden Snowmobile Club cabin. Those looking for powder and more of a challenge can venture past the cabin into the depths of the Quartz riding area. Quartz can be broken into five main riding zones; Cabin Valley, Prairie Hills, The Saddle, Area 51 and Area 52. Be aware of avalanche hazards in all areas above the cabin.
Check the map at the trail head to ensure you are not entering Glacier National Park or heli skiing areas, as sledding is not permitted in these areas.
NOTE:Numerous logging roads can be fun to explore on your way up the trail. A left turn 10km from the parking lot gives access to Grizzly another 8km once you've left the main Quartz trail. The GSC is working on slashing and clearing all the way into the Grizzly area. In the next year or two the plan will be to groom this trail.
Full grooming schedule is under way with 4 grooms per week. The three new parking lots are plowed regularly and are ready for use (to the left, ideal for enclosed trailers, Sled decks etc to the right).
Please check the Avalanche forecast for South Columbia and the Purcells before heading out to this zone.
Make sure your group has avalanche skills & equipment when playing in the backcountry. All avalanche gear including AirBags, shovels, probes and beacons are available for rent at SnowPeak Rentals.
Grooming for Quartz Creek is every Wednesday, Friday, Saturday & Sunday night.
