    Sled Area Description

Gorman is a hill climbers paradise and is groomed on a regular basis. This is an area for those extreme riders who enjoy adrenaline ascents and descents on their machine. This area is also the access to Upper Holt, Gorman Lake, Lang, Cirque, Upper Quartz Lake, Lower Quartz Lake and Grizzly. This area is not recommended for beginner riders. This is also in an area with numerous avalanche paths, so be sure to know the avalanche hazard and how to use your beacon, shovel and probe if you go.

Access is via Dogtooth Forest Service Road. There is potential for active logging on this road. Sledders are advised that use of VHF radio frequency 153.320 is mandatory seven days per week or while active logging is occurring. This required radio communication will help ensure safety for all road users. Watch for posted signs, use caution at all times, and give logging trucks the right of way.

The Gorman riding area encompasses six large valleys. Access to all areas can be complicated and is not recommended at all points in the season. Scratching the surface, in exploring Gorman, could be up to three full days of riding.

NOTE: The Gorman Lake parking lot is the closet access to the West Bench Trail from Golden. The intersection of the West Bench and Gorman Access Trail is roughly 8km from the parking lot.
