Brian Lavoie: Snowmobile Guide
Brian Lavoie is our new full time guide and mechanic this season. He has been sledding Golden for 15 years. Born in the prairies of Saskatchewan, he moved to Golden for the sled accessible snowboard terrain and developed an industry leading snowboard and ski rack for snowmobiles. Brian has been involved in a few snowboard and ski videos, working as a guide and production tech.
Brian has been snowboarding for over 20 years and has mad skills on both a sled and snowboard. Brian looks for the deep untouched powder and knows where and when to find the best snow Golden has to offer.
Brian is building an off-grid homestead in the area, including chickens and pigs and a unique house using "Earthship" techniques and "Hempcrete". Him and his wife Betty are working to create a closed loop food system through their Permaculture farm and Bettys organic grocery store "Eat Pure Mountain Market".
Skills and certifications:
- Avalanche Operations Level 1
- Outdoor Emergency First Aid (Level 3)
Other Certifications and skills include: Millwright, welding, sled mechanics and heavy duty equipment mechanics and maintenance.
Every year in April, Brian helps organize a back country event at Quatrz Creek called "Quartz Sessions GT or Die", it is 10 years running and involves sending 5 GT snow racers at a time down a custom track with jumps and tunnels and bank turns to the finish line. The Race is a full day event, includes a charity BBQ to support local Search and Rescue Operations. Check it out in April.
